The lights are back on at Wealthy Theatre’s historic theatre space this Monday. Wealthy Theatre will be joined by its fellow Grand Rapids Community Media Center (CMC) resources for a new live virtual concert series – WYCE at Wealthy.

Launching Monday, June 8 from 6-7pm, WYCE at Wealthy gives music fans a chance to enjoy live performances from local artists almost three months into continued concert venue shutdowns in West Michigan amid the pandemic.

The series is a collaboration between CMC’s WYCE, Wealthy Theatre, and GRTV. WYCE’s bringing the artists, Wealthy Theatre’s hosting the performances, and GRTV’s broadcasting it all live on Comcast channel 24, as well as Facebook.

Monday’s performers will be guitarist Hayes Griffin and mandolinist Nate Roberts. Combined, Griffin and Roberts have over 30 years of experience performing folk and traditional music, with influences drawn from bluegrass, jazz, Irish, and classical. Griffin is also WYCE’s Station Manager.

"Community building happens through the arts, and we are excited to put to use our resources including WYCE, Wealthy Theatre, and GRTV – to bring a bit of artistic joy at this moment," said CMC’s Executive Director, Linda Gellasch. "Our thanks to Hayes Griffin and Nate Roberts for offering up their creative talents for us all."

Griffin and Roberts’ debut album  Unadorned and Commonplace  was released in July 2019 on the Built to Last Music Notes label, featuring 11 original compositions. It explores the artists’ roots in bluegrass and folk, while venturing into newer territories for them, including modern jazz, Indian, and soul styles.

WYCE at Wealthy will continue weekly and is free to the public. Donations are encouraged and will support CMC’s resources, as well as the performing artists. In addition to WYCE, Wealthy Theatre, and GRTV, CMC’s resources include The Rapidian, Web Development, and nonprofit services.
