Celebration! Cinema and Founders Brewing Company have partnered for a film and beer series. Each classic film will be paired with a special beer: Grand Rapids residents can watch "Shawn of the Dead" while drinking Founders Pale Ale or view "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," Dirty Bastard in hand.
The staff at Celebration! Cinema has been trying to figure out a way to bring classic films back to theatres for some time now.
"We knew we didn’t want to just show the films. We wanted to create a unique atmosphere in the theatre that really celebrated how much we love these old movies," Eric Kuiper, Director of Alternative Programming at Celebration! Cinema, says. "And when you’re located in Beer City, USA it seems pretty obvious that pairing the films with some of our favorite beers was the way to go."
The Founders staff is enthusiastic about movies, and making the Brewed for Film series as cohesive as possible.
"We actually started by looking at the beers that we have available during the 10-week run, before we got to the movies," says Founders Director of Communications Sarah Aldrich. "Each of our beers has their own personality. We then paired them with the movie that we felt best portrayed or paired with that personality."
The series runs every Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Celebration! Cinema North through May 27. A complete list of the dates, their films and the corresponding beers is in the sidebar.
Movie tickets to each film will only cost $1 and beers start at $4, depending on the offering of the week. The events will also feature trivia with prizes given away, such as a Founders tour and tasting package, Beer Education Class package, Founders Fest tickets, Celebration! gift cards, glassware & other gear.
"Founders is full of movie lovers and Celebration! is full of beer lovers," Aldrich says. "A series of films paired with Founders just feels right!"
