In this week’s segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase, Sara Lowe, Executive Director at Emmanuel Hospice, discusses common misconceptions about hospice care and explains Emmanuel's unique model of care.

Emmanuel Hospice is an interfaith, nonprofit hospice provider that provides services that may not be covered by insurance, such as acupuncture, massage therapy, music therapy, and more, along with traditional hospice care. They also provide grief support to anyone that has suffered a recent loss, even if their loved one was not a patient with Emmanuel Hospice.

Hospice care can be provided anywhere that someone considers home, and Emmanuel's mission is to put the patient's wishes first. That's why they begin service by asking, "How do you want to live?" Emmanuel focuses on celebrating the life of a patient in hospice care and helping them live their last wishes.

It's never too early to discuss end of life care, and Emmanuel Hospice encourages families to have open discussions about it now, rather than when a chronic diagnosis is received. Having a plan helps the patient and their family feel more at ease and receive the best care possible. You do not need a referral to enter hospice care, and Emmanuel Hospice is available 24 hours a day to answer questions and provide more information on hospice care.

Watch the NPO Showcase segment above to learn more about Emmanuel Hospice's model of care. You can reach out to Emmanuel Hospice for further information any time by calling 616.719.0919 or visiting their website.

Check back next Wednesday for a new segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase, featuring MIRecovery.info, a new website resource to assist people with substance use disorders.

NPO Showcase is just one of the many ways that the Community Media Center serves the nonprofit community.
