INTERVIEW
In this edition of Catalyst Radio we talk about the mission of journalism with Brian J. Bowe, a professor of journalism at Grand Valley State University.
Bowe, also a Ph.D. candidate at Michigan State University, is in part focusing his research on framing and media representations of cultural groups and is a participating faculty member in Grand Valley’s Middle Eastern Studies program.
In this conversation we also touch on social media, and whether its impact on journalism is significant and long-lasting. Bowe shares his thoughts on the latest Pew Research Center’s State of the News Media report and also speaks about citizen journalism sites such as The Rapidian, getting news through mobile devices and the news business in general.
With so much to talk about with Professor Bowe, we are inviting him back for subsequent visits to Catalyst Radio, but we will have to do this before summer’s end. Beginning this fall Bowe begins a teaching and research fellowship in Paris at the Sorbonne in the Graduate School of Journalism and Communications.
MUSIC
Local music featured this week on Catalyst Radio from the band Glean Infusion. The disc released earlier this year is called Alive and Well. The featured song is “Coming Apart.”
The Rapidian, a program of the 501(c)3 nonprofit Community Media Center, relies on the community’s support to help cover the cost of training reporters and publishing content.
We need your help.
If each of our readers and content creators who values this community platform help support its creation and maintenance, The Rapidian can continue to educate and facilitate a conversation around issues for years to come.
Please support The Rapidian and make a contribution today.
