Pizza, beer, and rock’n’roll. What more do you need?
Instead of the traditional album release show, The Campanellis launched their debut album, Camp Optimist, with a listening party.
In the spirit of the album, band members Joel Gilbert, Paul R Jaissle, Dan Fisher, Keith Jaissle and Jon Pataky gathered with friends and fans at The Meanwhile for slices, drinks and jams. They played the album through twice, split by an interlude mixtape of their influences, The Raspberries, Shoes, the Ramones, and more.
Camp Optimist kicks off with the sharp crack of a beer can. The rest of the album follows suit. It’s crisp, fizzy, makes you a little more inclined to dance and ends with making out.
The tracks are bite-sized power-pop earworms that you’ll be humming for days. The Campanellis premiere strength is their ability to invite you into their music. The driving power beats, paired with playful, dirty guitar make dancing hard to resist, and every chorus about late Saturday nights and unrequited love begs to be sung along.
As the band says, "The Campanellis love rock 'n' roll, and they love you too."
Camp Optimist is available for download through The Campanellis' bandcamp. Their next show is May 9 at The DAAC.
