Beyond the Reboot: Interview questions for artists, curators and venue managers

 

ARTIST INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

1. How did you come up with the idea for this piece?

2. How did you make it? (physical and mental process)

3. How did you consider the placement of your piece-the context of the space it’s in, as well as in the context of ArtPrize in general?

4. What do you see as the strengths of your piece, visually or conceptually?

5. What has your experience been with ArtPrize? Tell me any important interactions with the organization, the venue, and the viewers. ....add your own follow-up questions as interests you and would interest your readers!

 

YOU WILL ALSO NEED:

-an audio or video recorder to get direct quotes (you can check this out at The Rapidian offices (contact [email protected]) or download a free app like iTalk Recorder on a smartphone)

-title, size, materials, location, description of work (write down a lengthy description of the work while you are there in the space looking at it)

-2-3 pictures of work & artist if not doing video interview -artist’s website

 

YOU COULD ALSO HAVE:

-reflections from viewers that are looking at the work before/after your interview

-your own reflections of the work and the venue’s work in general

-artist’s background/previous experience

 

 

CURATOR/VENUE QUESTIONS

1. What made you decide to get involved with ArtPrize this year? What did you see as the benefits and challenges of being involved?

2. How did you select the work for your venue? What themes or requirements were a part of our selection process?

3. How did you then decide what pieces went where in your venue? What is each piece’s relationship to the ones around it?

4. What do you think are the strengths of your venue, visually or conceptually?

5. What has been your experience with ArtPrize? Tell me any important interactions with the organization, (the venue if you are a curator), the artists, and the viewers. ....add your own follow-up questions as interests you and would interest your readers!
