Western Michigan University (WMU) boasts an impressive collection of Fine Arts valued around $3.5 Million ranging from paintings to drawings to textiles. WMU’s main campus is located in Kalamazoo with their downtown Grand Rapids extension being housed in a 5-story refurbished building at the corner of Cherry and Ionia, in the Heartside Neighborhood.
Playing host to multiple entries, WMU united the collection with the underlying theme of identity. Whether it’s identifying with one’s dreams through Where Madness Blends Most Gracefully With Reality, adolescence in David, heritage with Ancestral Projections, gender in Shift, or the Loss of Identity, artists at this venue attempt to give the viewer a deeper understanding of what makes us individual through art. The curated collection includes time-based, installation, 2-D and 3-D pieces.
WMU is located at 200 Ionia Ave SW.
