Saint Laurent film to portray life of fashion icon at UICA

For the first time, the UICA will be showing the documentary that will show a glimpse of the fashion world and the life of a world renewed fashion designer from July 17 until July 30th 2015.

The UICA will be showing the Saint Laurent film that portrays his life starting July 17 until July 30.

A closer look at the life of Yves Saint Laurent from 1958, when his career first started, to when he met Pierre Berge, his lover and business partner.

The film is rated R, runs for 150 minutes and the admission cost is $4 for UICA members and $8 for non-members. Darius, a worker at the UICA says, "in the two years I've worked here we have never shown a fashion designer documentary."

Yves Saint Laurent is known as the "sun-king" of couture and has dressed the world's most famous and glamourous women.  Avenue Marceau in Paris is where fittings have been held, and is where the Saint Laurent archives are.

The original designer created clothing that reflected a lifstyle. As times changed, Saint Laurent changed designs to show the cultural shift of the working woman with pant suits and trousers.

Yves Saint Laurent died in 2008, with his last coture show in 2002. The brand is noted as one of the most influential fashion houses.

"YSL is by far my favorute higher end brand," upcoming fashion designer Annie Brower says. "Especially with the re-branding, it's so sleek and mordern."

Saint Laurent is orignally known as Yves Saint Laurent, however the Yves was dropped in mid 2012. The current head designer, Hedi Slimane, wished to revamp the fashion house, and make it more youthful. Though the name was shortened, the "YSL" is still the symbol on the brand.

While under the creative designs and rebranding of Hedi Slimane, Saint Laurent has had a 40% sales increase.

“Before the re-launch we had a very small footwear business. Now Saint Laurent is one of our top ten [brands] at Barneys,” said Daniella Vitale, chief operating officer and senior executive vice president of Barneys New York. “We took a very big risk, without any history, but Saint Laurent has been such a huge success for us and a fantastic return on our investment.”

One of Yves Saint Laurent most famous quotes is, "Fashions fade, style is eternal."
