Grand Rapids Documenters

At The Rapidian, we believe being informed brings power to a community. That's why we introduced the Grand Rapids Documenters program, a part of the nationwide Documenters network, to create a new public record right here in the River City!

Since 2023, we have been training and paying Grand Rapidians to record notes and audio for a diverse range of local public meetings, with a goal of boosting transparency and making what goes on at City Hall (and in boardrooms and auditoriums across the city) more accessible to our neighbors.

The national Documenters network was founded by City Bureau, a civic-journalism lab based in Chicago, in 2016.

So many important conversations in Grand Rapids happen everyday, sometimes in boardrooms without an audience. As a Documenter, you have the power to change that.
