Safe Haven Ministries empowers women, supports them in personal decision making

This week's episode of NPO Showcase features Safe Haven Ministries, a nationally recognized organization that supports women by addressing issues of domestic abuse

The Rapidian's Nonprofits section features stories written directly by local nonprofits about their work. These stories reflect their perspectives, not The Rapidian's editorial voice.

In this week’s segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase Program Director of Safe Haven Ministries, Tara Aday, discusses some of the services they provide to women and children who have experienced, or are experiencing, domestic abuse.

Safe Haven Ministries provides a 24/7 help hotline to individuals needing support. Safe Haven Ministries' goal is to empower women through awareness that there are options available to those experiencing domestic abuse. They offer emergency shelter, support groups, case management, children's programming, safety planning, and resources to educate and prevent further abuse.

Nearly 1,000 women and children contact Safe Haven for shelter and support every year. In the need to expand their facilities to keep up with the demand for service, Safe Haven has launched their Empower the Journey Capital Campaign. Funding from the campaign will be used to build a new integrated services facility, to bring all of their services under one roof. Safe Haven will also be expanding their services to children, families, and communities across Kent County. Community members or organizations interested in getting involved are encouraged to donate to the campaign directly, attend one of their upcoming events, volunteer, or help Safe Haven source items on their wish list.

Individuals seeking services from Safe Haven should contact the 24/7 hotline at (616) 452-6664, or visit their website to learn more.

Check back next Wednesday for a new segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase, featuring Blue Star Players.
