GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The legendary Rodney Crowell makes his debut in Royce Auditorium at St. Cecilia Music Center on November 12, 2021. Crowell, known as the founding father of the Americana genre, is Nashville royalty and a national treasure, as well as a five-time Americana honoree and award winner. Still going strong, Crowell is a hit songwriter, a chart-topping singer, and a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. His prolific work has added two new albums over the past two years.  With Crowell’s joyful ownership of songs that have become dear companions the audience will experience the depth of Crowell’s true nature during this special evening and his first appearance at SCMC.

Tickets for Rodney Crowell are available at www.scmc-online.org or by calling 616-459-2224.

St. Cecilia Music Center’s Executive & Artistic Director Cathy Holbrook says, “We are thrilled to welcome Rodney Crowell to St. Cecilia Music Center. It’s so exciting to have traveling artists and live audiences back in the building. This evening of music will be very memorable.”

Rodney Crowell has won numerous awards, including two GRAMMY’s and six Americana Music Association Awards as well as their Lifetime Achievement for Songwriter award. This last accolade resonates deeply with a man who has stacked up fifteen number one hits including 6 of his own, and dozens of others for an impressively diverse array of artists including Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Keith Urban, Bob Seger, Etta James, and the Grateful Dead. He has 18 albums to his name, with his most recent albums:

  • Rodney Crowell: Texas, released in August 2019. The album includes his work performed by him and well-known artists such as Vince Gill, Ringo Starr, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Lee Ann Womack, Steve Earle, and other outstanding musicians; and
  • Rodney Crowell: Triage, released in June 2021. This newest collection of songs was written during the great political, climate and economic upheaval that has marked our most recent years. The noise of that chaos encouraged the songwriter to go inside for solace and answers. The result is this series of songs that contend with these themes but approach them from a place of healing love and solution. That they have been released while we find ourselves walking through a global pandemic, is a gift of perfect timing. Triage is Rodney’s 18th studio album, his third on his own imprint, RC1 Records, and is his first with Thirty Tigers.

Filmmaker/musician Haroula Rose also directed Rodney’s first video released in May 2021, “Something Has To Change”,which was shot at Castle Recording Studios in Franklin, TN.

St. Cecilia Music Center’s 2021-22 Season includes a World-Class Lineup of Folk and Jazz Musicians, as well as celebrates the 10th anniversary of their partnership with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The new WinterFest Music Festival in February will also be an exciting highlight of the new season. Throughout the season, St. Cecilia Music Center will feature 17+ evenings of outstanding performances by world-renowned jazz, folk, and chamber music artists in what is their 138th season of music.

Rodney Crowell - Bio

With more than 40 years of American roots music under his belt, Texas native RODNEY CROWELL is a two-time Grammy Award winner who has written fifteen #1 hits with five Number One hits of his own and a legacy of songwriting excellence which has made him an icon among giants. With strong roots in country music, Crowell has written chart-topping hits for the likes of Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Keith Urban and more. But owing to the distinctly universal, literary quality of his writing, has also penned beloved songs for artists as diverse as Bob Seger, Etta James, the Grateful Dead, John Denver, Jimmy Buffett, and countless others. A member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, Crowell is also the author of the acclaimed memoir, Chinaberry Sidewalks, and teamed up with New York Times best-selling author Mary Karr for Kin: Songs by Mary Karr & Rodney Crowell in 2012, with Karr saying of her collaborator, “Like Hank Williams or Townes Van Zandt or Miss Lucinda, he writes and croons with a poet’s economy and a well digger’s deep heart.” Crowell was honored with ASCAP’s prestigious Founder’s Award in 2017, and that same year released the album Close Ties, which spawned another Grammy nomination for “It Ain’t Over Yet” with Rosanne Cash and John Paul White in the category of Best Americana Song. In 2018, he opened his own record label, RC1 Records, and released Acoustic Classics in 2018 and TEXAS in 2019. Rodney’s upcoming album, Triage, will be released July 23rd on RC1 Records/Thirty Tigers.
