As the holiday season again draws near, the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) is inviting shoppers to its 30th Annual Holiday Artists Market on December 1, 2018, from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. The Saturday-only event will take place at Steelcase Town Hall, and will feature over 75 local and regional artists, as well as local food and beverage vendors and entertainment. Thanks to Presenting Sponsor Steelcase, Inc., the Holiday Artists Market will once again transform Steelcase’s expansive Town Hall into a festive holiday fair for all ages.
“I’ve never missed a Holiday Artists Market since I moved to Grand Rapids,” said Derek Call, Director of Operations and Production at ArtPrize. “I always know that I’ll find special things for my friends and family. It’s the best place to buy gifts that are unique, and not at every store or online. And getting to support artists and shop local is amazing.”
After 30 years, UICA’s Holiday Artists Market remains a favorite outlet for artists to sell their wares during the holiday shopping season, and one of UICA's leading artist-centered events.
The selection of curated gifts available at the popular holiday event includes jewelry and wearable designs, home goods, fine art, holiday cards, leather goods, ceramics, and more. The sprawling Steelcase location allows the event to host more than 75 local and regional artists and artisans, many of whom return each year to participate in the holiday event. UICA expects over 4,000 guests to attend this year’s annual event. A full list of participating artists can be found on the UICA website at uica.org/ham.
This year, guests will enjoy expanded food and beverage options including Crepes by the Lake, Lantern Coffee Bar, Patty Matters, and Malamiah Juice Bar. WYCE - 88.1 will be broadcasting live-onsite, playing both holiday and local music.
While the Market is happening at Steelcase Town Hall, UICA’s galleries and downtown movie theater will remain open. UICA winter exhibitions share the local artist focus with its current shows Coming Home, a suite of exhibitions by established artists with a connection to Michigan; and MEGA, a group show of recent graduates from Michigan colleges and universities.
