Displayed within Kendall Lighting Center’s main entrance, Mike and Tracy Kehr’s mosaic Energy Burst shines brightly. This husband and wife, collaborative work is the couple’s first submission to ArtPrize. They have created a thoughtfully intricate mosaic possessing a strong presence.

Standing apart from the more iconic based pieces shown at this venue, Energy Burst fits beautifully within its space. Vivid gold and blues radiate from its center; bringing out the true sense of its title. Up close, each hand cut piece is placed meaningfully. A cluster of orbs is focused at its heart, while gold and blue strands flow from that point. Additional orbs are placed throughout the piece, giving the eye plenty of places to rest and creating areas of interest. While the colors and shapes do a beautiful job at depicting a burst of energy, the medium itself contributes to the overall effect. During the day, the piece shimmers with sunlight and is backlit to softly shine through the night. “Every item [was] chosen for its perfect spot in our piece,” stated Tracy Kehr. Upon seeing Energy Burst in person, it becomes apparent just how thoughtful  the piece’s design is. Every element works together and contributes to the overall effect.

Mike and Tracy Kehr have created a high quality piece that any viewer can easily associate with. Each aspect plays off of the others while working harmoniously and creating a truly beautiful piece that merits recognition.
