Mel Trotter Ministries' Day Center will remain open for all while the temperature is in the single digits.
While Old Man Winter throws a fit, Mel Trotter Ministries (225 Commerce SW) are keeping their Day Center open to anyone in need of shelter.
Cynthia Longyne, Communications Manager for Mel Trotter, says the Day Center will stay open as long as the temperature is in the single digits. All men, women and children needing shelter will be accommodated, including anyone on Mel Trotter's "barred list."
"In the Day Center, individuals may get a warm drink, do laundry, use the internet and seek shelter from the elements," Longyne says. "All guests are invited to stay in our Emergency Shelter for a hot dinner and a warm bed to sleep in overnight."
The Weather Channel predicts Grand Rapids' temperature will drop to 3 degrees this weekend, with windchills as low as -10 degrees and snowfall expected every day until Wednesday.
Longyne says Mel Trotter is in need of blankets, twin-sized sheets, socks and pillow cases. Information concerning donations can be found on their website or by calling 616-459-8249.
