Bored of the same old, same old? Frustrated with the way things are, but too afraid to do anything about it? Emerging Grand Rapids artist Marissa Voytenko explores the concepts of fear, order and freedom in her work “Learning A New Song”—a three-panel encaustic painting displayed at the Alden B. Dow Musueum of Science and Art in Midland, MI.  “This was really a breakthrough painting for me, which has opened doors for a whole new body of work”, says Voytenko, who just received the prestegious “Alden B. Dow Solo Exhibition Award” for the painting. Her work and that of some 50 other Michigan artists are displayed at the museum July 26 - September 21, 2014 as part of the 53rd Greater Michigan Art Exhibition.

The Midland Center for the Arts has been described as a “hidden gem” and likened to the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. The center boasts award-winning exhibits shown at the arts and science museum, a school of art and outdoor gardens including a children’s garden.
