INTERVIEW
In this episode of Catalyst Radio we explore a new radio journalism project called the State of Opportunity, which examines poverty in Michigan and the possibilities for changing situations for the disadvantaged. Grand Rapids-based journalist Dustin Dwyer is in studio to talk about the three-year multi-format exploration which began on air July 9. With funding from the Kellogg Foundation, the Michigan Radio effort is in large part focusing on children, the causes of poverty and where opportunities for progress may exist.
A first in a series of community meetings on the subject will be held July 30 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hopcat, as part of Michigan Radio's "Issues & Ale" events.
MUSIC
This edition’s highlighted local music comes from Luke Winslow-King from the new disc The Coming Tide, featuring Esther Rose, with the song “Moving On (Toward Better Days).”
