Building Community Together

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

10:00am-12:00pm; 1:00pm-3:00pm

GR Initiative for Leaders, in partnership with the City of Grand Rapids and GR Forward present the Building Community Together: an exploration of community capacity building event.  This event will take place on Wednesday, April 29 at Madison Place, 1401 Madison Ave. SE.  This event is free and open to the public, but space is very limited.  Register for your spot todayhttp://buildingcommunitytogethergr.eventbrite.com

The purpose of this event is to educate and engage community members in dialogue around community development, provide an overview of the GR Forward project, and provide a guided asset mapping walk around the downtown area.

The community capacity building training challenges participants to recognize the potential in any community to contribute to its own healthy development, and provides principles and tools to strengthen its ability to do so.  The asset mapping walk involves participants making observations of the community’s characteristics and identifying assets that can be developed.  This activity empowers participants to evaluate and challenge their perspective on how they view the community and its potential to be sustainable and thrive.
