Pick up a shovel at Treehouse Community Garden

Roll up your sleeves and help Treehouse Community Garden tackle a larger garden project this Saturday in the Baxter Neighborhood.

Why a garden in Baxter?

According to the Treehouse community, the Baxter neighborhood has been labeled a “food desert,” which means it lacks readily available fresh produce and other healthy options for residents within walking distance. Organizers want to address hunger and malnutrition by sharing the fruits of their labor and through gardening and nutrition education classes offered to all ages. Equally so, they hope to improve the general "health" of the neighborhood by fostering quality interactions among neighbors as they work side by side in the garden

The Treehouse Community Garden invites family, friends and community members to get their hands dirty in the garden this Saturday, June 29 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  The community workday is scheduled to help complete special projects such as an arboretum, path-laying, mulching and weeding. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves and boots and proper work attire.

Anyone is welcome to volunteer for the day or just to stop by for an hour and help the Baxter community continue the development of the garden space.
