Personal Information
- Name: Nancy Lautenbach
- Reports On: arts, women's issues
- About: I am a Grand Rapids native, recently relocated back to my home place. My professional background includes work as an illustrator, graphic designer, and for 4 years as owner of Ten Weston Gallery in Grand Rapids, MI. I am a practicing interdisciplinary artist working in a variety of media including: pen and ink, sculpture, ceramics, installation, fibers, and bookmaking. My current body of work focuses on my passions for the environment and the feminine connection of woman to nature; the female body; fat issues (self-esteem, body image, eating disorders); female sexuality; women's health; the politics of culture and empowered voice; and art, media and cultural practice, both historically and in a contemporary context. I am concerned with how the female form is represented and, more specifically, where my own form is located in this representation. I am constantly amazed and inspired by the power of the creative process as a tool for healing and self-discovery. My current passion has me exploring my writing voice. In my spare time I can be found traveling the countryside on my '98 Triumph. I aIways carry a sketchbook with me.
