In this week’s segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase, Charles Honey, staff reporter and editor for School News Network (SNN) discusses news reporting inside public schools within the Kent ISD umbrella. SNN covers issues and opportunities presented to today's students, and within the public education system.
SNN was launched by Kent ISD in 2013 to offer a 'window into public education.' Traditional news outlets have reduced their presense in schools over the years, and the SNN initiative was created to fill the void for those interested in the happenings within local school districts.
Topics reported by SNN range from new methods of teaching, issues facing the modern student and educator, interpretations of legislation from Lansing and Washington, student achievement, and outstanding educators. SNN features ongoing series' regarding mental health, poverty, migrant and refugee students, advancements in special education, and new methods of teaching math and reading.
Watch the NPO Showcase segment to hear Charles' experience reporting for SNN, and what you can learn through SNN reporter's unique access to classrooms in area public school districts. To read more, visit or subscribe to SNN's weekly newsletter, featuring headlines from Kent County area public schools.
Check back next Wednesday for a new segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase, featuring Exalta Health.
