Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. (DGRI) and Friends of Grand Rapids Parks have revealed a teaser video and public competition as a means of announcing the 2014 lineup for their wildly successful Movies in the Park series. DGRI commissioned local filmmakers, Whiskey Neat Productions, to create a short video that provides viewers with hints about the films that will comprise this year’s series. The teaser video features local celebrities, officials, and hometown heroes depicting memorable moments from beloved films.

The teaser video, online survey and more information are all available on Downtown Grand Rapids Inc.'s website. Viewers that can correctly name all of the films referenced will be entered to win a personal projector system to show movies in the comfort of their own home. The contest closes this Thursday, May 8.

The Movies in the Park series was created using active community involvement in 2013. Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. received substantial interest from the general public to advance the concept of “walk-in” Movies in the Park as an opportunity for Grand Rapidians to enjoy summer evenings along the Grand River. The inaugural series, held at Ah-Nab-Awen Park, allowed the public to bring a blanket, food and wine to enjoy a free outdoor movie projected on a 50-foot movie screen.

“Last year’s success demonstrated just how important this event is to the community,” says Kristopher Larson, President and CEO of Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. “We had over 10,000 people participate in the free events last summer. This year, we wanted to build on that concept by creating a fun way for the community to learn about the 2014 lineup.”

This year, there will be six movie nights at Ah-Nab-Awen Park on June 6, June 20, July 11, July 25, August 8 and August 22. Each night will include a film with programming assistance from sponsors and nonprofit community partners. The final night of the series will conclude with a double feature, with the first film being chosen through voters’ choice polling.

Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. and Friends of Grand Rapids Parks will serve as Presenting Partners again this year. Series Sponsors for the event include Celebration! Cinema. Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. is still accepting requests for sponsorship opportunities.
