Be on the lookout as Midtown Neighborhood Association staffers prepare residents for several upcoming activities.
Mapping Midtown: Graffiti and vacancies
Street by street and door-to-door, our staffers are working to connect with you. Between now and Jan. 14, Midtown staff are mapping vacant structures and graffiti in the neighborhood.
"Instead of being reactive, as an association, we can be proactive and engage neighbors on blocks where there are vacancies or graffiti before the problem becomes enlarged," said Kelly Otto, MNA's community organizer. "Residents are more likely to advocate for the betterment of their block if they are informed and community-minded in their approach to public safety."
Community involvement resource
As neighbors we all like to know what is going on in the area in a timely and professional manner. Copies of the new Midtown Neighborhood Association Community Involvement booklets will be mailed to every home in Midtown beginning the week of Jan. 24.
"The booklet will serve as a guide to residents of the area who are in need of helpful contact information, block club and block party how-to's and much more," Otto explained. "The initial mailing will include an insert informing residents of upcoming events, activities and pointers on how to get more involved with their neighbors."
Block clubs and block captain training
A block club and block captain training will take place at 10 a.m. on Feb. 12 (location TBD) for those residents wishing to learn how to get more involved at their own pace. Childcare, beverages and snacks will be provided.
A guest speaker from the Grand Rapids Police Department will be presenting. If you would like to reserve your spot NOW please let our staff know. If you are a family wishing to utilize the childcare services, please let us know how many children and their respective ages so that we can be sure to have an appropriately adequate number of childcare providers on hand.
Here's to looking towards a more community minded 2011! Here's to a better Midtown!
