NPO Showcase, a staple production of GRTV, premieres with a new format today! This past summer, the show took a short hiatus while GRTV staff took time to reimagine the show to better serve the changing needs of nonprofits in our community.
Overall, the mission of the show remains the same - to highlight local nonprofits in a way that actively engages the audience in the mission of their work, with a continued focus on organizations that are underrepresented and underserved.
One major change is that the segments are shorter to facilitate sharing on social media. New segments will be released each Wednesday on the GRTV Facebook page, as well as here on The Rapidian. As always, the interviews will continue to air on GRTV and LiveWire, channels 25 and 24 on Comcast cable.
The first segment of the updated format has been released today and features Feeding America West Michigan. Andrew Steiner of Feeding America West Michigan discusses Hunger Action Month, taking place during September, and explains how you can get involved to help end hunger in our community.
NPO Showcase was created in 2002 as a way to help nonprofits promote their missions, work, and needs to the community. It was a vision of former GRTV Station Manager, Chuck Peterson, and was originally hosted by current GRCMC Board Member, Joel Van Kuiken, and Dominican Sister Barbara Hansen. In 2005, Hansen became the sole producer, host, and editor.
Hansen retired at the end of 2013, and Julie Way, the current Nonprofit Outreach Coordinator at GRTV, took over production of the show. The format has remained the same until now, with the exception of the upgrade to HD video and an updated graphics package produced by GRTV Intern Joseph Ross Parks in 2015. Over 600 interviews have been recorded since 2002.
Stay tuned each Wednesday for a new segment of NPO Showcase. Young Leaders Against Violence (YLAV), 3:11 Youth Housing, and Mobile GR will be featured during September.
