Rapidian launches Gazelle Girl writing contest

The Rapidian is hosting an essay contest highlighting self worth and the power of inspiring others. Deadline for essay submissions is Friday, January 31, 2014

About the Gazelle Girl Half Marathon:

"At Gazelle Sports, we actively pursue, encourage and celebrate a healthy lifestyle. We have a vision to change West Michigan by making it the healthiest region in the country. In 2013 over 3000 women came together to run the streets of Grand Rapids. Over 700 women ran the half marathon or the 5k distance for the first time. That's what it's about! This year's event is going to be even better and we hope you will join us! Gazelle Sports is hosting this event:

  • To honor women
  • To actively encourage new runners to participate in the sport
  • To build relationships
  • Because women’s health impacts family health
  • To enhance partnerships within the community
  • To raise money for women's charities
  • To HAVE FUN!!"

With all the white noise of “new year, new you” and becoming your best self, it can be difficult to appreciate exactly who are you. The Rapidian believes in uplifting individuals and celebrating who they are simply for being so.

The Rapidian is partnering with Gazelle Sports in sponsoring the Gazelle Girl Half Marathon, a cause driven by empowering women to celebrate who they are while building long lasting relationships. As part of our partnership with Gazelle Girl, we're holding an essay contest. Essays should tell us how you have discovered self worth, how you celebrate yourself and what you do, and/or how you will inspire others to celebrate themselves. The winning essay will be published on The Rapidian, as a part of our Voices section and the winner will also receive a complimentary entry for the Gazelle Girl half marathon or 5K race.

All interested individuals in receiving this complimentary entry must have/be the following:

  • Applicant must be of the female gender
  • Applicant does not need to be a current or former Gazelle Girl to enter
  • Applicant must submit a small essay describing how she celebrates herself or how she is going to do so in this next year
  • Applicant essay must be typed and using Microsoft Word (or a Mac equivalent)
  • All submissions must be sent to The Rapidian by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014.

Please submit essays to The Rapidian via email. Applicants will receive a confirmation email once her submission is received. The contest winner will be annouced on Monday, February 3.
