Wilcox Park will see its first "Dog Days of Summer"event on Saturday, July 30 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. "Dog Days of Summer" is a festival developed to celebrate dogs and their owners. Wilcox Park is widely known throughout the Eastown community as a dog friendly park. On weekend mornings owners and their dogs can be found venturing through the park searching for the best smells. Wilcox Park is a perfect location to celebrate our beloved four legged friends.
Many Eastown businesses dedicated to dogs and their wellbeing will be featured, including: Nature of the Dog Grand Rapids Dog Walking Company, Daisy's Circle, A Pleasant Dog, Eastown Vet clinic, Wealthy Street Animal Hospital, D’arts Donuts, Kent County Animal Shelter, LuvNPupz Rescue, Eastown Community Association and Michele's Rescue.
Have you been thinking of adding a dog to your family photo? If so, the rescues will have adoptable dogs at the event for you and your family to meet with. The rescues will have applications at the event, but all applicants will require a home visit prior to adoption. There are a few contests for the event, including a dog and owner look alike contest and a most popular dog of Eastown contest ongoing via the Dog Days of Summer Facebook page. Voting for the contests will continue until 12:30 p.m. the day of the event and the winners will be announced at 12:45 p.m. Prizes for the contests include gift certificates to A Pleasant Dog and Nature of the Dog Grand Rapids Dog Walking Company.
Many are eager for the event. Carol Drueke Gohl said, “This sounds like a great place to be for dog-lovers.” If you consider yourself a dog-lover, bring your friends and family down for a morning of fun with puppy pools, a raffle and delicious donuts from D'Arts Donuts food truck! Even the dogs are excited, a community member’s furry friend says, “Molly can’t wait to meet all the other pups!”
There will be many dogs at the event so be sure that you do bring a leash for each of your dogs and doggy clean up bags. The raffle prizes consist of a gift certificate from the Eastown Vet Clinic and other dog must haves. All funds raised from the raffle will benefit Bissell Pet Foundation, who has recently taken responsibility of all of the dogs from the Barking Boutique. If you wish to participate in the raffle, visit the information table. If you wish to participate in the voting for the contests please visit the Dog Days of Summer event page on Facebook. We hope to see you Saturday!
