Grand Rapidians encouraged to be conscious of fallen leaves, blocked storm drains
On Monday, the City of Grand Rapids sent out a reminder to residents asking them to be mindful about where they rake their leaves.
According to Monday's press release, the City's storm drains "are designed to filter out debris that would otherwise end up in the river." During the autumn months, falling leaves can accumulate and block these drains. This results in stormwater being unable to properly drain and "can lead to unnecessary and unwelcome street flooding."
The City of Grand Rapids does have yard waste services available to residents. More information can be found on the City's website.
