EnhanceFitness is a nationally recognized physical activity program designed for fit and frail older adults.Come join us at the Open House on July 14, 2014 to find out more!

Are you an older adult looking for an opportunity to get fit outside of a gym? EnhanceFitness (EF), a class designed specifically for older adults, makes getting (or staying) fit more fun!

You can recognize an EF class by the relaxed atmosphere and the laughter in the room. The hour class combines strength training, flexibility, aerobic exercise and balance all in a casual environment. Participants often make new friends throughout the hour long sessions and meet their fitness goals all while having a good time.

“Many people, including older adults, don’t like going to a gym because they feel intimated by the equipment or the other people at the gym. It can be hard to motivate yourself to work out at home and you also lack the accountability and one-on-one instruction you get with classes,” says Barbara Nelson-Jandernoa, Healthy Aging Program Coordinator at the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan. “The EnhanceFitness class removes those fears and helps make fitness more fun!”

Over 99% of the people who have taken EF classes would recommend them to a friend. Classes have proven to: 

  • Increase strength. Regular participant in the class grow stronger, improve their balance, and become more limber. 
  • Boost activity levels. Even those who aren’t fit quickly find themselves able to do the things they want to do more safely and independently.
  • Elevate mood. Research shows that exercise can help prevent depression, and EnhanceFitness participants say they feel better physically and emotionally.

Want to join an EnhanceFitness class? Come to the Open House on July 14, 2014 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan (3215 Eaglecrest Drive NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525). You can try out the class for free and purchase an 8 pack of classes at the special open house pricing of $20 (a savings of $4).
