GRCMC and Rapidian sites go dark Wednesday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Rapidian and the GRCMC are encouraging our readers and supporters to learn more about proposed bills SOPA and PIPA.
Underwriting support from:

The Grand Rapids Community Media Center website will be going dark from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18th.

As a part of GRCMC, The Rapidian will also be going dark during this time.

Purportedly aimed at curbing Internet piracy, many feel that the “Stop Online Piracy Act” (SOPA) and the “Protect IP Act” (PIPA) contain provisions that will have broad ranging and detrimental effects on an open Internet, especially hurting sites that host user generated content. As an organization that promotes free speech and encourages content creation and participation by all voices, we encourage you to take a moment to learn more about this important issue, the rules that are being considered and the consequences (both intended and not) which may result.

The Rapidian, a program of the 501(c)3 nonprofit Community Media Center, relies on the community’s support to help cover the cost of training reporters and publishing content.

We need your help.

If each of our readers and content creators who values this community platform help support its creation and maintenance, The Rapidian can continue to educate and facilitate a conversation around issues for years to come.

Please support The Rapidian and make a contribution today.

Comments, like all content, are held to The Rapidian standards of civility and open identity as outlined in our Terms of Use and Values Statement. We reserve the right to remove any content that does not hold to these standards.
