April 12, 2011 marked the 150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War. While the battles took place in other states, the people of Michigan were deeply involved. On June 13th, 150 years ago, the first local soldiers boarded trains in Grand Rapids and headed east to join the battle. Our new exhibit will unveil uniforms, weapons, photographs, letters, and more from the Museum's vast collection. These artifacts will give you a rare glimpse into the lives of the local soldiers and officers who volunteered to fight and the civilians on the home front that supported them. Please visit www.grmuseum.org/civilwar or call 616-456-3977 for more information. The exhibit is free with Museum admission.
