Destination 1111 is gearing up for its seventh year at 1111 Godfrey from Oct. 1-3 on the west side. For three days each fall, the warehouse is transformed into a multi-artist exhibit, with all local performances, fine arts and music. Organizers Michael Pavona, Jim Gebben and Chris Schafer join us on air to talk about this all-volunteer event for the community.
Two songs from Ribbons of Songs' new album, Pocket Dreams, are featured on this show: "Payphone Blues" and "I Can Hear It In My Sleep."

Journalism schools offer summer programs for high schoolers
Several journalism schools have recently endeavored to support their academic year's work through partial revenues from high school summer offerings. Included among those schools are New York University, Boston University and Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism.

Craigslist replaces adult services section with "censored," testified before Congress
On Aug. 30, Craigslist removed access to its adult services section without comment and replaced it with the word "Censored," with no way to access the site section. This section was originally created to keep adult service ads out of the personals section and was manually monitored for pornographic photos. Craigslist has not made any official statement and testified before Congress earlier this week.

Chicago extends definition of "journalist"
The City of Chicago has traditionally handed out press passes to full-time reporters but has recently incorporated part-time and digital journalists in the definition.

In a tongue-in-cheek piece, Simon Dumenco cites celebrity tweets as an example of how the press release's time has come and gone. In just 140 characters, Twitter influencers can start trends with their followers, which makes them powerful agents for determining instantly gratutitous news.

Critical Mass is a free, non-athletic group ride which all are invited to attend. The group rides together in a manner that is safe and welcoming to riders of all skills levels, with the intent of raising awareness of bikes as traffic, promote all aspects of cycling, build community, and to celebrate a love of bikes. [FUNDRAISER] Sunday Soup #7 feat. Bryce Dwyer of InCUBATE
Sunday, Sept. 26 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at The DAAC, 115 S. Division Ave.
Sunday soup is a monthly community meal that provides mini-grants for local small-scale creative projects. $5 buys you a bowl and a vote. The entire proceeds of the gathering will go to fund the proposal with the most votes. This month will feature a special guest MC, Bryce Dwyer of InCUBATE, the chicago-based group that initiated the international Sunday Soup movement. After the meal, Bryce will give a quick talk about his work with InCUBATE, the origins of Sunday Soup and the problematic nature of contemporary arts funding. This lecture is co-sponsored by the Visual Studies program at GVSU Art and Design. Additionally, this month marks the beginning of a potluck format for Sunday Soup. Participants will still provide a delicious range of Sunday Soups (with ample vegan options), but encourage attendees to bring a dish to pass as well.
