In this week’s segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase, Kiran Sood Patel, Managing Editor from The Rapidian, discusses the "hyper-local" news outlet's 8-year anniversary, the rollout of their new website and how community members can get involved and start submitting their own content to the online news site.

As one of the departments of the Community Media Center, The Rapidian contributes to the culture of empowering the community by giving residents of West Michigan a forum to share their voice by covering local issues and events. Anyone is able to submit content using a free Rapidian account and will have their work professionally edited and published. The Rapidian offers free community journalism workshops several times a year, with an upcoming workshop on October 10th

The Rapidian articles truly are written for the community, by the community. Get involved by writing your own stories, signing up for their "Place Matters" newsletter, contributing financially, or by simply perusing their newly re-designed website after reading this article!

NPO Showcase is just one of the many ways that the Community Media Center serves the nonprofit community. For information about this and other CMC services for nonprofits, or to schedule a future interview, contact Nonprofit Outreach Coordinator, Adrian Hirsch, at 616-459-4788 x105 or email [email protected].

The Rapidian, a program of the 501(c)3 nonprofit Community Media Center, relies on the community’s support to help cover the cost of training reporters and publishing content.

We need your help.

If each of our readers and content creators who values this community platform help support its creation and maintenance, The Rapidian can continue to educate and facilitate a conversation around issues for years to come.
