Earlier this summer, The Rapidian teamed up with The Grand Rapids Press and MLive to create a multi-platform, interactive summer contest. The people of Grand Rapids were asked to submit photos to The Rapidian site of any and all things relating to summertime. Then, MLive used those photos on their site and people were asked to come up with their own creative captions for the photos. The results are in and the winners decided.

Erin Brevard's photo of an adorable child walking through the sand and towards the water got the most votes out of all 126 photos submitted. A Day at Lake Michigan was submitted on the first day of the contest, and really gained momentum at the end making it an easy victory. Brevard will receive a Rapidian swag bag for winning the contest.

Brevard is an ER Registered Nurse in Holland, who started taking photography classes as a hobby. It has now launched into a side business for Brevard, who hopes the contest helps build her network.

"Hopefully this contest will help increase my network and help me connect with people who enjoy my work," Brevard says.

Of the winnings photo, Brevard says it was taken on the first nice day of summer, when she decided to drive to Tunnel Beach with her daughter, Aubrey.

"We surprisingly had the beach to ourselves. Aubrey could not wait to get to the water and I captured her mad dash to get there," says Brevard. "I felt that this photo encompassed a true feeling that we all have and love about summer."

The winning caption to accompany the winning photo was submitted by MLive user saveGR. "Oh, OW, OW, OW, OW, OW, OW, OW...." was the caption submitted by saveGR, who will receive an MLive swag bag for their funny caption.

There were some very popular summer themes emerging throughout the contest. Sunsets, water and children were the most popular photos captured. Brevard's first and second place photos collectively included all three of the top themes.

Her second place photo, Sunset at Oval Beach, was captured in Saugatauk.

"I think this picture has good composition and captures the beauty that surrounds us even when you just stumble upon it," says Brevard. "I am very proud that the two pictures I submitted took first and second place and want to thank everyone who voted."

Keep an eye out for the next Picturesque for your chance to share photos, vote on others and maybe even win some prizes.
