THE FEED
The Kent GOP will host Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for the 124th Annual Lincoln Dinner on Wednesday, November 16th, 2011. Secretary Rice will be launching her tour early in November upon the release of her new book, No Higher Honor, a memoir of her years in Washington. Her visit to Grand Rapids will serve as her only book tour stop in Michigan.
Occupy Grand Rapids has planned a demonstration to protest the key roles that Secretary Rice held in the Bush Administration’s action leading into the Iraq war. According to the online source War Criminals Watch, Rice is guilty of the following war crimes:
- Crime against peace – planning and carrying out a war of aggression.
- Complicity in the commission of a war crime – wanton destruction of cities and villages, devastation not justified by military necessity, ill-treatment of civilian population of or in occupied territory.
- Complicity in the commission of a war crime – torture, ill-treatment of detainees.
Occupy Grand Rapids has planned for the event to start with a march, beginning at 4 p.m. Nov 16 at Monument Park (at the intersection of Fulton & Division).
Food Not Bombs (Grand Rapids chapter) will be providing food for the public at no cost. (Donating time to help clean up afterwards is encouraged.)
The 99% will be drumming and chanting and making their collective voices heard during this demonstration.
A Speak Out Session will be held, allowing any individual community members the opportunity (typically one to three minutes) to share their viewpoints with fellow the public.
In addition, the 99% will utilize the People’s Mic to collectively address their grievances with Secretary Rice & the Kent County GOP.

I moved from the Metro Detroit area to Grand Rapids in October 2009, and fell in love with the Rapidian right away. I like how the Rapidian is an invaluable tool for contributing to the community, meeting new friends, and discovering new places and events in Grand Rapids. I am always looking for an excuse to point my camera at something interesting and capture a good story. Feel free to contact me with your ideas, events, and opportunities. Or just to say "hi" and make friends. MY EMAIL IS scottwarren.grandrapids@gmail.com
