At approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, Matthew Russell was headed west on Fulton on his way home to Grandville.
It was pouring rain, and according to Russell, who was riding his moped, he was edged over by a vehicle in the right lane and collided with a parked car. Russell reported that the weather may have been a contributing factor. The accident occurred near the corner of Fulton and National.
"Everything blacked out until I arrived at Spectrum," Russell said. No police report has been provided, and there is no information available about the driver involved. Russell was wearing his helmet.
Russell arrived at Spectrum-Butterworth with a broken arm, jaw, sternum, and a protruding femur. He underwent surgery on Sunday morning. Reportedly, the surgery went well. Russell is currently recuperating at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital.

I'm so sorry to hear this! What can we do to help Matthew's healing? I'll bring him some music...
Saw Matt this morning. Looks remarkably well, considering. Busted up but maintaining his typical good humor. Maybe his hospital room will become Rapidian office 2.
Keep up the good spirits Matt! Plenty of iPhone Scrabble coming your way !
So sorry to hear this about Matt, hope he recovers quickly! Just got my scooter on the road this weekend, I will be driving with some extreme caution after hearing about this.
