A little Saturday morning rain brought nothing but rainbows on Atlas Street as Eastown neighbors and area lesbian-gay-bisexual-trans (LGBT) advocates gathered to celebrate the first annual Network Neighborhood Bash. The bash is a fundraising event for the Lesbian and Gay Community Network of Western Michigan (343 Atlas Avenue SE) and featured live performances and a silent auction.

I was listening to Ed Nino's "Welcome 2 Jericho," which he dropped off in my mailbox a few weeks back, and couldn't really think of how to do it justice. This is a guy, who I initially thought was a little too intense before I knew his music. Then I absorbed it and it really resonated with me.

The Electric Cheetah Supporting Local Farms

Local eating is catching on in a big way. To me, it just makes sense environmentally as well as economically.

Windmill building in Eastown being put to use

It is always nice to see a local business go into a building that is vacant; such is the case of 1436 Wealthy, a building shaped like a windmill. It sits across the street from Yesterdog in Eastown. For years, the building was occupied by Windmill Floral. It was most recently Ludemas Floral.

Movement of Sound for M.S.

Billy's in Eastown was the place to be Sunday, November 23rd. There was a Bloody Mary bar, great drink specials, live music all day, a raffle and art on auction all for a fundraiser to benefit multiple sclerosis.

Anna Fisk suffers from MS, but rather than letting it get her down, she gets active, and organizes one great party every year and donates all the proceeds to local MS treatment. This year, she brought in almost $2,000, and it was all from the local community.

Eastown Street Fair 2009

For the last 36 years Eastown has turned Wealthy street from Atlas to Lake Drive into a cultural mecca, this year they've out done themselves. Organized by the Eastown Community Association, local business, restauraunts, artist and musicians get together and celebrate this unique community with the Eastown Street Fair. This year there were 94 vendors, set up in tents throughout the streets, 13 bands playing an eclectic mix of music and several tents offering a taste of the local fare.
