A benefit for the Haitian Creole Pig and Haitian culture, featuring poet and musician John Sinclair and an Ancestral Art installation, is taking place at Ice Cream Gallery at 117 S. Division Ave. through Sunday.

INTERVIEW

We highlight in this episode of Catalyst Radio an event featuring author, poet, musician and activist John Sinclair. “A Pig Thing benefit for the Haitian Creole Pig” this weekend (Apr. 5-7) at Ice Cream Gallery is the culmination of a month-long focus on the rights of indigenous people. This weekend’s activities also include performances from numerous local musicians, as well as a benefit art installation on indigenous voices.

In studio are Ted Jauw and Ian Swanson. Jauw, an artist participating in the Ancestral Art indigenous voices project at the Gallery, will explain the significance of the feral pig in Haitian culture, and about the history of the Haitian people. Swanson is from West Michigan Center for Peacebuilding which is putting on the fundraiser, and will talk about the vision for the event featuring Sinclair, and about the organization.
