Michigan author Gerry Boylan’s new book, Gerry Tales, recounts a lifetime of mostly true tales from his life growing up in a big family and the adventures he encountered starting a brood of his own.

This collection of personal essays invites the reader to experience Boylan’s most chaotic-yet humorous moments and to reminisce on their own family lives. His stories are sweet, loopy and hilarious, ranging from hitchhiking experiences gone awry to the birth of his first child (sans painkillers or doctors, but with pinochle-playing buddies and malted milkshakes). Whether he’s fleeing in terror from a marauding bat or causing a thousand-bicycle pileup in Beijing, Boylan fondly recalls these true tales from his life with a unique mixture of lunacy and heart. Gerry Tales will make you laugh, smile, and bring tears to your eyes as you see your own family in his stories.

--The time a young Gerry accidentally put the Baby Jesus doll upside down in the manger during Christmas Eve midnight mass, then fell off the stage and into a nun's lap.
