Current political and economic changes make us strangers in a strange land, even though it’s our home. Ancient Greek drama illustrates our own crises in leadership, compromise and community cultural values. GVSU professor Diane Rayor uses Sophocles’ Antigone, to illustrate the struggle between the individual and the state—and the community’s response—has powerful implications today. Ancient Greeks/Modern Lives is a national program funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities that aims to illustrate how Greek Drama’s themes resonate today. Free and open to the public.
